South West Championships 2026
Students from all across the Westcountry descended on Marjon university for the first ever South West Championships. This inaugural event brought clubs and students together in good spirits to demonstrate their skills and abilities in a competitive environment.
After a brisk set up, the morning started with patterns. A positive demonstration of patterns from all age groups from Saja right up to Kodang! Nerves were in the air, especially with lower belts, who were taking part in their first tournament. None the less, umpires were impressed by the efforts shown by everyone.
Sparring followed and this was a great chance to show off. The nerves had now settled for most, allowing a brilliant array of kicks and punches in search of much desired points.
Special techniques concluded the tournament with some very impressive displays of flying kicks. For the younger competitors performing flying kick, the target continued to move further and further away creating an amazing distance. The older competitors were charged with high kick. Again, the adrenaline-fueled juniors and adults battled until a victor was found.
The day concluded with students being awarded their medals with the traditionally podium photos.
As always, a huge thank you goes out to all the students that attended and the umpires who officiated on the day.
In time the event will continue to grow and cement itself as a regular date on the taekwondo calendar.
