I travelled to Newquay airport to collect Master Nicholls and take him to his hotel, before a meal in the evening with all the instructors, this was a welcome time to relax and catch up on all the news.

We arrived at the dojang at around 9.30 am, soon after the other 50 or so black belts started to arriveg and the atmosphere was building as you can imagine. Miss Perkin started to warm up the class ready for Master Nicholls arrival. Soon after, he arrived to a resounding round of applause and after a quick chat to the students the training began.

Master Nicholls then made sure our legs were properly warmed up, (boy they were definatley warm !!). We then moved on to various kicking techniques, where Master Nicholls was emphasising the use of your whole body mass thereby maximising the power generated. We spent 45 minutes or so practising this and then it was on to patterns, making sure we were all using what we had previously practised along with the correct waist twist and speed between techniques, thus ensuring each individual student reached their optimum power output, he also clarified the fast motion, continuous and linked movements in each pattern.

The two hours training just seemed to fly past and before we knew it, it was time to finish. Master Nicholls went back to his hotel to change and then myself and Mr Eldred took him back to the airport and just had time for lunch on the way where we were still drawing on his knowledge asking even more technical questions, which as always, he took time to answer.

It is this training that we, as Imperial students take for granted, when we should be grateful that he is always there, after all it is this that sets Imperial apart from the rest, may be that should be our thought for the future.

A huge thank you, as always to Master Nicholls for his time and enthusiasm from all the Cornwall black belts, and we look forward to his next visit.
