SGTKD at the English Championships
View all articles

The weekend of 2nd & 3rd February saw students from SGTKD travel down to Paignton to attend two UKITF events.

The first was on Saturday afternoon when Phoebe, Ben BA, Joseph, Kieran, Callum, Ollie & Ben C took part in the GB squad training session. This brought together ranked students from all over the country all hoping to be selected for the elite GB squad who will take part in the European Championships in Barcelona in July. It also brought together friendships that had been forged in competition but were becoming stronger by having the opportunity to train together. It was a very cold experience for those watching but for those taking part there was little chance to feel chilly as they were put through two hours of rigorous training. Patterns were refined and new sparring techniques practised under the watchful eyes of Miss Burridge, Mr Churchward, Master Wood and Mr Cude.

After this the weigh in began and members of different clubs once again joined together to help set the hall up for the English Championships the following day.

Twenty students from Stoke Gifford TKD took part in the championships and it was another great day for all concerned. The whole hall was a mass of constant activity as the six rings became the focus of attention. All ‘The Giffs’ students did themselves proud and it wasn’t long before the medal tally began to grow. Patterns were quickly followed by sparring and then power and special technique. In total SGTKD brought home 31 medals – 10 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze.  Full results are :-
