Harry Evans and Cozmin Feru take wins at Suffolk’s full contact kickboxing Showdown

On 21st November, Yiewsley Pro-Taekwon kickboxers Harry Evans and Cozmin Feru embarked on their full contact kicking careers, debuting at the Suffolk Showdown 3.

Up first and representing Pro-Taekwon was Cozmin Feru. After a professional weigh in and quick bite to eat there was just enough time for a quick rest before warming up and mentally preparing for the fight. Approaching the ring Cool, calm and collected Cozmin was ready to fight! Matched against an amateur Matt Geere, both opponents entered the ring with an air of confidence, looking eager to impress as they were brought in for the referees instructions.

Dominating from the outset, we quickly learnt that Cozmin’s punches were far too strong for his opponent who was instantly put onto the back foot. Round one done and with a comfortable lead, the Pro-Taekwon fighter was instructed to do much of the same. Round two however saw Greaves come out strong from the bell with front pushing kicks and high turning kicks, catching Cozmin of guard. With Geere growing in confidence Cozmin turned up the pressure forcing Geere once again onto the back foot. Time was called, a close round for both fighters…

The last round and with all to fight for, Cozmin came out throwing big hands backed by solid mid-section kicks, slowing his opponent and scoring valuable points. Finishing the round with a new found determination, Cozmin took the round and a comfortable win in his first amateur bout.

Up next was Harry Evans. On the back of a very successful Junior Taekwon-Do career, World Champion Harry was matched against a very tough opponent in Rossi Reid, a seasoned light contact fighter with the full support of the home crowd behind him. After a very heated first round with both fighters trading punch for punch and kick for kick, Harry returned to his corner to regroup and rethink his tactics.

Round two and Harry came out a much more controlled fighter. Settling into his performance Harry looked to control the round with solid side-kicks and powerful hand combinations. Going into the final round ahead on the score cards, Harry’s opponent came out determined and focused, looking to outwork and put pressure on Harry. Listening to his coaching team and drawing from experience, Harry sought to keep Rossi Reid at bay with long legs and superior ring craft, leaving him to throw at shadows. As Rossi began to tire towards the end of the round we saw Harry’s unrivalled fitness and conditioning shine through, backing Rossi into a corner and unleashing a barrage of ferocious punches until the final bell was struck.

With a unanimous decision Harry was crowned the winner against a very tough opponent from Combat Kickboxing Academy, a strong training camp with top level coaches. This has been a great start to the young fighter’s full contact career and we look forward to seeing how far he can take his passion.
