SGTKD and the English Championships 2012
View all articles

The final national event before the World''s was the English Championship and it was one that was eagerly anticipated by the students of Stoke Gifford TKD.  We always look forward to our visits down to Cornwall and this year was no exception. Alas, the rubbish weather we have experienced this summer put paid to any frolicking around on the Cornish beaches the day before the competition, but it didn’t dampen our spirits or the warm welcome we received from our hosts and fellow competitors.

We all arrived at the Carn Brea Leisure Centre bright and early and things were already set up and ready for the prompt start. Once again there was an information screen telling us what was happening on which ring “now and next”. Salli Chapman was unable to make it on the day so Vin McDermott stepped in to help Glyn and soon “the Chuckle Brothers” had things under relative control!!

Patterns started the day and The Giff’s students all performed brilliantly earning a total of 13 medals.  The first degree cadet  boys did especially well in their group, coming away with gold, silver and bronze.

The sparring was as eventful as always and after some exhausting  rounds the guys and girls came away with another 13 medals having given it their all.

Power finished off the day and this proved as tough as expected but Phoebe did what Phoebe does best and came home with a well earned gold.

Part of the fun of attending these competitions is not only in the taking part and, hopefully, the winning of medals but also in getting back together with the friends made in other clubs and seeing them do well too. Once again this proved the case at the English and SGTKD had another great day.

As always these events would not be possible without the organisation behind it, so, thank you to all concerned for another well run and enjoyable competition.

See you all at the British J
